Episode 75: Pack Midtown
Craft Wine and Beer in Reno, NV hosts Bob Moffitt, Chris Knapp, and Stoutcast newbie Chris Smith (ROOK!) for a 36th anniversary trip down memory lane and the Pack Midtown event. This is an annual event involving the Reynolds School of Journalism and other colleges at the Harvard of the West. Nooo, not that one. No, not that one, either. It’s the University of Nevada-Reno, people. C’mon!!!

Von Ebert “Waning Echoes” American 6.7%
Bob: It’s eee-burt. Citrus hops with chocolate. I’m afraid. I hear American, I think bitter. Not my thing. If I wanted an IPA, I would have bought one. Let me explain how an American Stout is made. Delivers what it promises. Take a little anger and then… Fair for me. Good for hopheads.
Chris: It’s ehhhhh-burt. It’s not bad bad. Fair.
Kiuchi Brewery “Hitachino Espresso” 7% abv
Bob: No info on the bottle. Sweet. Cool red tint. The bottle art is cool. VERY GOOD. Why is it 11.2 fluid ounces?
Smith: Because 6.7 is too small. What time is it? Time to talk when the mic is not pointed at me. That’s what time it is. This is a GOOD beer.
Knapp: I get the coffee. I like the finish. Solid all around. VERY GOOD
Jester King “Back Metal” Imperial 12% abv
Bob: If I can’t read your font, you have a problem. No ingredients listed. The art’s cool. RIP Ace Freely. The website info is half death metal, half Copenhagen-spitting goat roper. Chocolate malt, candied sugar, British caramel. Dangerous. Syrup. EXCELLENT.
Smith: Aftertaste is minimal. Delightful. Reminds me of Austin. More, please. I’m all tingly. EXCELLENT
Knapp: That’s 12. Little too sweet. GOOD/VERY GOOD. It’s closer to a dessert stout.
