Episode 73: Down The Oregon Coast

The boys (Glenn Crim, Chris Knapp, and Bob Moffitt) go down the coast of Oregon metaphorically for this episode, understand what it tastes like to lick a pirate, free O.J., get boneless wings (not real wings!), debate the merits of Applebee’s, mix beers together to see if they might be salvaged. Thanks to Bottles and Cans in North Portland for carrying a solid collection of stouts. CLICK HERE FOR THE PODCAST!!!

Baerlic Beer Co. “Noble” Oatmeal 6.2% 60 IBU

Bob: Label says rolled oats. Great. Thanks for nothing. Beer art is okay. I like the logo, but there are way too many black and white stout cans. Smells sweet. Chocolate and coffee are both bitter. This would pair nicely with spearmint gum. GOOD. Meets my expectations.

Knapp: Bob should stop getting beer if this is the kind of sweet swill Glenn can lay his hands on. Bakers chocolate hits me. GOOD.

Glenn: Denim shirt Fridays are my jam. VERY GOOD. If I’m in the mood for a little bitter sumpin’ sumpin’ (not that beverage), this absolutely works.

Barrel Mountain “Starway” American 6.6% abv 35 IBU

Bob: Eric Anderson in the house! Interesting can art. No info. Raisins? Toast? Thanks, Bevmo and Beer Advocate for any info. One note. Seems like a foreign export stout. “American” stout is kind of like renaming the Gulf of America. VERY GOOD.

Knapp: Hey, look! A black and white stout can. It’s where beer and adventure meet. VERY GOOD.

Glenn: GOOD. Nothing wrong with it. One note. Forgettable.

Public Coast “stRANGER TIDES” Chocolate Cherry 7.8% abv

Bob: Lots of can info. Impressive. They deliver what they promised. Not sure I want to drink an entire one. FAIR

Knapp: Smell the cherries. Taste the cherries. If you love the cherries, this is you. EXCELLENT

Glenn: Ranger Chocolate is insanely good. This beer returns my faith in brewers and fruit. EXCELLENT

Santiam “Pirate” Foreign Export 9% abv 59 IBUs

Bob: I’m having flashbacks. And aftertastes. Oof. It seems like it’s separated. POOR.

Knapp: Promises rum. Delivers. I’m really struggling to find words, here. Wow. Is sunscreen an adjunct? POOR.

Glenn: Sort of like a glancing blow to the groin. POOR.
