Vinyl is still king at Jackrabbit Brewing in West Sacramento, CA. The music is class and so are the stouts. Photo by Bob Moffitt.

EPISODE 55: jackrabbit Comes Alive

Jackrabbit’s Mike Stone and the Stoutcast’s Bob Moffitt hang out with Peter Frampton while Chris Knapp, Joey Gonzalez and Glenn Crim are green with matcha-infused rage from afar in an episode that violates the time-space continuum and most rules about run-on sentences. CLICK HERE for the podcast

Jackrabbit “Chocolate” Oatmeal 6.5% ABV

Mike: We like Cholaca for the chocolate and I’m going to explain why Joey’s dependence on IBU is suspect

Bob: Smells like chocolate, but I don’t get the chocolate taste. Smooth though. GOOD/VERY GOOD

Jackrabbit “Maple Pecan” Oatmeal 5.5% ABV

Mike: I don’t like pecans. Let me tell you how you can make drinking breakfast sound stylish.

Bob: Why is it so fizzy? Maple up front. Nuts in the rear. I like to roast pecans one match and one pecan at a time. That’s true dedication. VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT

Glenn: VERY GOOD. Not getting pecan, but that’s not a bad thing. Not too sweet.

Joey: Not sure what I was expecting. VERY GOOD.

Knapp: Pecan knocks down the maple a tad, which is good…as is the low alcohol content.

Jackrabbit “Full Saucer” Milk 6.1% ABV

Mike: I don’t like lactose either. Starts sweet

Bob: The can art is phenomenal. The initial taste is too… but then the fizzy and the aftertaste show up and bring it down. An alien probe in the beer might solve that. GOOD/VERY GOOD.

Jackrabbit Temple Oatmeal Coffee Oatmeal 6.5% ABV 17 IBU

Mike: We can’t afford the kope luwak, but these beans are good. Peppery might confuse as heat. Supposed to finish dry. This one evolved in the can to lose some of the coffee. Bob Moffitt’s beer fridge should be getting rid of these beers faster.

Bob: Aromatic. Finishes sweet. Not a lot of coffee. If I actually read stuff, I’d be less confused. GOOD?VERY GOOD.

Knapp: I’m digging the coffee. GOOD only because I don’t like ice coffee.

Joey: I’m getting the oatmeal, but not the coffee. I like it enough to give it a GOOD.

GLENN: I can smell it. I can taste it. VERY GOOD.

Onibi Matcha Oni Cream 6.1% ABV

Mike: Experimental beer brewed by Jackrabbit for Onibi. Caffeinated matcha tea. Made to go with Japanese food.

Bob: Demonic can art. Smells . Nailed the goal but is it likeable? Saki-esque. GOOD/VERY GOOD. You have to try this just to say you did.

Jackrabbit “Imperia” Russian Imperial 10% ABV 60 IBU

Mike: The old 19.2 oz. can. Classic! Boozy.

Bob: Where’s the….ow my eye. Boozier version of the Chocolate without the chocolate. The taste is… GOOD.

Mason Aleworks “Valley of Plenty” Golden 6.5% ABV 17 IBU

Bob: It’s GOOD/VERY GOOD for a lager. No blueberries.

Joey: GOOD. Just because you have a badge don’t make you right. No coffee.

Knapp: I’m confused. No maple syrup. GOOD.

Glenn: Obviously mislabeled. GOOD.

All: None of the flavors promised are obviously present. It is our opinion that goldens are not real stouts.
