New Helvetia Homeland Foreign Export 5.5% ABV 45 IBU

It’s dry. More like a dry Irish than a fruity whatever. Hefty but approachable. Coffee makes it easy like Sunday morning.

Zane: thicker offsets the bitterness.

Bob: VERY GOOD. Nice intro to stouts for the uninitiated.

Karl Strauss Ten Beers For Breakfast Pastry 6.9% ABV 30 IBU

Bob: Promises maple syrup, espresso, rolled oats. Delivers as promised: vanilla, maple. VERY GOOD.

David: I’m getting chocolate up front. It’s hitting the notes. Evolves from top to bottom. Really fun to drink. VERY GOOD.

Zane: GOOD. Little thin. Little old?

Echigo Japanese import 7.0% ABV

Promises coffee-like. Vanilla ice cream a recommended food pairing.

David: Comes in the classic 11.15 oz bottle. Not made in Canada. I smell ice cream through my mask. Enjoying it. Pleasantly surprised. GOOD.

Bob: The rounded ninja star is also classic. . I’d take any information about the beer, even in Japanese. KInda fruity, kinda thin. Is that dolphin? GOOD.

Zane: Nutty? Prunes? A little roasty and chocolate. VERY GOOD representation of the style.

New Helvetia “Black Is Beautiful” 8.6% ABV

David: This is almost exactly the Weathered Souls version, but with a little more body. Sojourner Truth African Heritage Multicultural Museum is the beneficiary of our proceeds.

Zane: Fruity, little boozy, smooth

Bob: Medicinal? Bitter… baker’s chocolate. Followed the original recipe which I don’t really care for. FAIR. It is the anti-pastry stout

New Helvetia “Mystery Airship” Imperial 10.3% ABV

David: Third version of this. Ages well thanks to help from extraterrestrial visitors. VERY GOOD, if I must rate my own beer and no, I’m not just saying that.

Bob: Smells sweet and boozy, just like I like my extraterrestrial visitors. VERY GOOD.

Zane: I wasn’t around for the brewing of this, but VERY GOOD. Tobacco, vanilla, nicely done.

Fort George Matryoshka Barrel-aged Russian Imperial 12.8% ABV

Zane: The brewer also does the art and that’s cool. Needs to warm up. VERY GOOD.

Bob: Wax on the outside equals quality. Delivers. VERY GOOD.

David: This blooms with so many flavors. VERY GOOD.
