Episode 49: Stout And About Mashup

New beer, no gear, no problem. Sometimes life throws a stout your way. What are you supposed to do? Say no thank you because I don’t have recording equipment? Of course not. So this episode of quick vignettes from the western United States is full of solo host Bob Moffitt struggling to do all kinds of things: identify the beer, get the name of the place right, remember to give it a grade etc. Wait, he had help in Portland from an anonymous cohost. So, CLICK HERE to hear a broadcast professional sound anything but as he blows through five beers in six minutes, in part because he didn’t record most of the sixth.

Mother Earth Brewing “Imagination Land” Golden 6.5% abv 40 IBU

Consumed at IBU in Portland with an anonymous, somewhat-paranoid federal government employee we’ll call Phil, as in Phillip Inyobizness.

Bob: Pretty good. Coffee always covers the problems with goldens. GOOD/VERY GOOD

Phil: Why is that airplane flying overhead? Do I get whistleblower protections for this? VERY GOOD

Left Hand Brewing “Chai Milk Nitro” Milk 5% abv 22 IBU

Bob: Delivered on the promise of smooth, chai, lactose, and nitro. Reminds me of a golden in a way. Their Nitro Milk has me spoiled. I expect more. GOOD. Definitely a talker.

Phil: Hey Bob, the red button on your phone records sound. Let me adjust my aluminum foil hat while I give this a VERY GOOD.

Iron Horse “Mocha Death” Coffee 7% abv 22 IBU

Bob: Momo is now closed, sadly, which is where we found this. Starts off smooth as you’d expect given the IBU, Weird in the middle. Clean finish. GOOD

Sutter Buttes Brewing "Stout" Oatmeal 5.5% abv 25 IBU

Bob: The name needs work. How about “Hub Cap?” or “Box O’ Needles?” As much as the marketing department needs to get it in gear, this is a really good oatmeal . Exceptionally dark, clean finish. VERY GOOD

Left Coast Brewing "VooDoo" American 8% abv 38 IBU

Consumed at the Tap Room in Modesto, CA. Gotta be warm or this voo doo has some bad mojo. Sweet, thin, nice finish. GOOD

Fort Rock "Whitney Brewston" Coffee 9% abv 20 IBU

Nice coffee notes. Hides the alcohol content quite well. The aftertaste brings it down a lot. GOOD.
