Episode 45: 199 Beers On The Wall. It was almost 198.

Somewhere in the Stoutcast Triangle, there was a break this summer in the time-space continuum and a loss of seven minutes of audio. Given that the Beermuda Triangle, a.k.a. the “Rangle,” stretches from Portland through Sacramento to Bishop up to Reno and then back to Portland through Bend, that seven minutes could have been anywhere. We hear there is a picture of a human shape covered in fuzz in the area where the time loss occurred. Was it Squatch? Bob in need of a shave and a haircut? Frank Jarvis? The Rangle has many more secrets than this that may never be explained. We are grateful the portion of the podcast reappeared, slightly dazed and with no memory of what happened. Please give thanks for its safe return and enjoy the latest podcast episode by CLICKING HERE.

Deschutes “Obsidian” American 6.4% abv

Dan: EXCELLENT. The beer marketing does this beer a disservice. Roasty and a clean finish is more than enough. One of my favorites. “A perfect stout.”

Chris: I’m confused. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t deliver what is on the website

Joey: I got roasty wolf hound eyes and dark skies are keeping me up late. FAIR

Bob: No real info on the beer. FAIR/GOOD. Kind of bitter. Very American stout-esque. Check out my dark, brooding senior voice. I’m available.

Jorge: VERY GOOD. Coffee and chocolate aren’t overpowering, which I like. Good balance

Glenn: I never would have got coffee or chocolate. FAIR.

Ninkasi “Oatis” Oatmeal 7.0% abv

Bob: I dun dranked this once. What’s on the label? Missing the chocolate. Two steps below great. GOOD

Chris: GOOD. Goes down smooth

Dan: Pretty beer. Oatmealy. Bon Jovi is my spirit animal. VERY GOOD.

Jorge: VERY GOOD or an 8. Damn kids and their very goods.

Joey: I’m having an Anchorman/Fantasy Island flashback. VERY GOOD. Very smooth.

Glenn: No chocolate. Three stars. GOOD. Little heavy on the oat.

Bend Brewing “Trade War” Export 7.5% abv

Jorge: FAIR. Not much here.

Joey: Some roastiness. Watery. FAIR

Dan: Roasty. Perfectly fine. FAIR/GOOD

Chris: GOOD. Not bad.

Bob: Roasty. FAIR

Pelican “Tsunami“ Export 7%

Dan: Big head. My God. There is actually coffee in a beer that promises coffee. Are those gulls? EXCELLENT example of an export stout.

Bob: The name is Pelican. They’re pelicans. Promises chocolate and coffee. Smells like Bud. Meh. GOOD/FAIR Aftertaste gets me.

Glenn: Eat before you go to the brewery. GOOD/VERY GOOD. Like the flavor.

Chris: Very drinkable. Getting a little cappuccino. Nice roast. GOOD

Joey: The beer art is pretty classic. Hats off. A little too roasty

Jorge: The head is nice. GOOD.
