EPISODE 38: Hey Covid-19, Self Distance This! From Oak Park Brewing

Shockingly, things got a little screwy with five people using a meeting app to record… Dan? Dan? Where’s Dan? My god, we’ve lost another co-host. And yes, it’s 5.5 percent! What? 5.5 percent! What?” But the beer was fantastic and the company wasn’t bad either. Normally we’d edit a lot of the extra stuff, recorded in seven-minute increments because of the echoing, but in this case, the extra stuff is what makes this episode so much fun. So cheers to you and yours. Stay safe. Have a laugh. Support your local businesses if you can and hit us up for a meet up when COVID-19 takes a hike. Us in this case is Oak Park Brew Co’s Geoff Scott (who I will refer to generally as Geoff Elliott) and Rodg Little whose name I will spell with a “J,” real-life beer judge Dan Scott, and real-life beer drinkers Joey Gonzalez, Bob Moffitt and Chris Knapp. CLICK HERE FOR THE PODCAST!

Oak Park Brewing “Dead of Night” English   5.5% abv

Geoff: You know who sings “Blackbird?” Raj.

Rodg: Let me sing you a song about walnut, plum, and a little tobacco essence

Bob: Fruity, nutty, not overpowering. but that’s the style. VERY GOOD

Dan: So English, so now. EXCELLENT

Joey: Good flavor, smoky.  VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT

Chris: I like the tobacco. Nice and light. VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT

Bruery “Bakery” Barrel-aged Coconut Macaroons 12.2 % abv

Geoff: I expect bourbon up front, vanilla in the rear, like a mullet.

Joey: Where’s the coco… haaaahhhhhhh… there’s the bourbon. FAIR

Dan: It’s a big, boozy vanilla stout. Doesn’t measure up to their others GOOD.

Chris: Bob oughta love it. Missing the coconut when it’s cold, but frightening how smooth it is. VERY GOOD. Very drinkable.

Bob: Knapp is right. I do love it because I can’t taste the coconut. There is something in the aftertaste though. Mine was actually fairly warm. No matter. VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT

Oak Park “Stout Kang” Imperial Coffee

Rodg: Ethiopian coffee from Pechamama, toasted coconut and hazelnut

Chris: Very complex. Like the coffee. VERY GOOD.

Bob: Really cool. Great talker. A little metallic aftertaste is the only thing that brings it down to a VERY GOOD

Joey: Now that my palate is curled up with a good book and a blanket, it says it likes this imperial when normally it would be calling the police. EXCELLENT. Even better than the Dead of Night.

Dan: It’s more like Vietnamese coffee. VERY GOOD.
