Episode 32: A Dog On A Bike

Several years ago, West Sacramento named brewery Bike Dog became one of the first to crack store shelves in the Sacramento region with its milk stout, a decidedly different experience than the traditional Guinness. In this episode, Bob Moffitt and Jorge Oseguera get to say thank you to Pete Atwood and Sage Smith. Click HERE for the PODCAST!

Left Hand Milk/Sweet Stout on CO2 6.1 % abv

Bob: Tasty. You get the coffee that’s promised but it’s not as smooth as the Nitro. Little aftertaste too. GOOD/VERY GOOD

Jorge: VERY GOOD. I like the sweetness and coffee.

Pete: VERY GOOD. Get some chocolate up front. Well-executed.

SAGE: Sweet, roasty. VERY GOOD

Midnight Sun “Mammoth” Extra 7.8% abv

Jorge: Information-free label makes it a mystery going in. A little “jammy.” Coffee and sweetness are well-balanced. VERY GOOD.

Sage: We aren’t afraid to give you information on our labels… ahem. Cherry? FAIR

Pete: I don’t know what I’m drinking… or smelling. Roasty, though. FAIR/GOOD

Bob: It starts off really nice and then goes downhill. FAIR/GOOD

Bike Dog “Double Milk” 8.5 % abv

Sage: It’s a chocolate bomb.

Bob: Interesting flavor. GOOD/VERY GOOD

Jorge: chocolate notes are there but not overpowering VERY GOOD

Pete: Lactose is a different type of sweetness

Victory “Storm King” Imperial 9.1% abv

Bob: Promises hops. Delivers waves of tastes but ends with an aftertaste. Pleasantly surprised. GOOD.

Pete: I like hops. Thick. GOOD

Jorge: A little hoppy, but easy to drink. Tastes like there are some berries GOOD

Sage: getting a bitterness. Veers away from chocolate and toward hops. GOOD. Really thick.

Bike Dog BABARIS Barrel-Aged Imperial 10.5%

Sage: Used High West, Four Roses, Jack Daniels Sinatra to age it.

Pete: You will be hit in the face with an oak plank coated in different types of malts and vanilla. Very complicated. Great fireside beer.

Bob: It’s the first of its kind to hit my palate. Truly unique. Mind blown. EXCELLENT

Jorge: My forehead has never been this furrowed. Super fruity. Banana bread? Don’t think I could handle a pint. GOOD/FAIR

Cycle Brewing “Wednesday” 2018 Imperial 11 % abv

Bob: Wow. Promises maple, cinnamon, a little hot. Delivers as promised VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT

Jorge: I like this flavor. Love the smell. On the sweet side. Maple comes through. Minimal-sized tasting recommended VERY GOOD.

Sage: Reminiscent of a Mexican hot chocolate Can’t do more than 4 ounces. The taste is great, but I don’t really like this genre GOOD/VERY GOOD This is the new thing.

Pete: Why is this a barrel-aged stout? All the sweetness annihilates the barrel. Still, it’s GOOD/VERY GOOD.
