EPISODE 25: STOUT BAR, BIRTHDAY BUSES, AND LOTS OF MUSTACHES AT URBAN ROOTS
The first anniversary for Urban Roots in Sacramento featured a lot of things not typically found in nature: seven stouts in one place, six mustaches, a giant birthday bus, a freshly-sworn-in American citizen and one of the few gear-wearing Baltimore Orioles fans in said nation. Chocolate Mustache Imperial Stout 11% abv
Peter: heavy chocolate, the original w/ cacao Nibs and vanilla. Dig our water chemistry.
Joey: Chocolaty, smooth, EXCELLENT
Bob: Great finish, nice and sweet EXCELLENT
Coconut-Infused Chocolate Mustache Imperial 11% abv
Peter: think Mounds bars.
Bob: I don’t like coconut. But if you do, this is for you. Great finish, GOOD for drinkability/Excellent for delivering what’s promised.
Joey: I have no quandaries. This is Macaroons and Samoas, which are my favorite and I’m digging this. EXCELLENT
Vanilla-Infused Chocolate Mustache Imperial 11% abv
Peter: six kegs on an “entire pound of Madagascar vanilla beans”
Bob: Vanilla stouts are usually not my fave. But this is VERY GOOD,
Joey: Take everything together and you have a VERY GOOD
Chocolate Milk Mustache Imperial 11% abv
Peter: younger, cacao nibs, vanilla, will mellow with time
Joey: I’m getting the booze, really light on the chocolate. GOOD
Bob: A little bitter, boozy, not a lot of chocolate GOOD
Coffee-infused Chocolate Milk Mustache 11% abv
Peter: Camilia coffee beans, like a cold brew. It’ll caffeinate ya.
Joey: I like coffee, I like stouts. Put them together, you get VERY GOOD
Bob: for coffee lovers, it’s on point. Great finish. Unlike the other milk mustaches. GOOD for me/Excellent for delivering what it promises
Mexican Hot Chocolate Chocolate Milk Mustache 11% abv
Peter: We picked the seeds out of the Ancho Chiles and added cinnamon. Soft and silky (like Bob Moffitt.)
Joey: As a Mexican expatriate, brand-new American, and former guzzler of Mexican hot chocolate, I cannot stop fawning over this beer. EXCELLENT. My favorite of the flight.
Bob: Great sip-and-share. It’s neat. I like the combination of flavors, but I’ve lost the chocolate GOOD/VERY GOOD.
Peanut Butter Imperial W/ Bottle Logic 10.5% abv
Peter: Dry, made with every ounce of peanut butter available in southern California practically and Meadowfoam Honey
Joey: Not getting peanuts but I like it. GOOD/VERY GOOD
Bob: Compared to the others, it’s not in the same class. FAIR.
