The rising sun and walk of shame in Arizona never sounded go good. It’s Spring Training time in the desert for this trip and a great time for host Bob Moffitt to try Beer Research Institute’s Morning Sex and imperial stouts with Beer Research Institute co-founder Matt Trethewey.

BRI Morning Sex Coffee Milk 5.8% ABV

Matt: For every pint you drink you get two ounces of Peixoto Coffee concentrate, which would make half a cup of coffee.

Bob: I cannot overstate how much coffee is in this. Unlike anything I have ever had in a coffee stout. Super potent and fun to try, but I’m not a big coffee fan, so my enjoyment was tempered somewhat. Delivers what it promises, so excellent for that. Overall, VERY GOOD.

Evil Twin No Hero Oatmeal 7.0% ABV

Matt: Boozy from the get-go. Really roasty. Intensity through the roof.

Bob: Do you like super burnt roasted malt? This is for you. For me? Too bitter. Too much. Aftertaste is nice though. FAIR

Boulevard Dark Truth Imperial 9.7%

Matt: Sweet, caramel profile. They went with Belgian yeast and nailed it. I’d drink it again.

Bob: FAIR/GOOD. Fruity, figgy, everlasting aftertaste detracts.

BRI Dark Side Til I Die Imperial 9.6% ABV

Matt: If Darth Vader brewed stouts, he’d brew this, along with some barrel aged varieties. Little extra bitterness to counteract all the sugars. Darth doesn’t do sweet.

Bob: VERY GOOD. Comes at you in different layers..
